Is Trader Joe's Garlic Spread Dip the same as hummus?

No. Trader Joe’s Garlic Spread Dip and Roasted Garlic Hummus are different products with different bases. Garlic Spread Dip lists canola oil, garlic, lemon juice, citric acid and salt. Roasted Garlic Hummus starts with chickpeas and sesame tahini and adds roasted garlic. Choose by the base you want, not just the shared word “garlic.”

Both were tasted at the September 6 picnic. Garlic Spread Dip earned “like,” with the note “Ehh, texture is kinda off.” Hummus earned “love.” As of September 8, hummus ranks fifth of six dips and Garlic Spread Dip sixth, with three and two recorded comparisons involving them respectively.

The hummus has no written texture note. The record therefore supports the preference and the reservation about Garlic Spread Dip, but not a detailed claim about exactly how the hummus felt by comparison.
